1977: Wings release "Mull of Kintyre", a tune about Paul McCartney's Scottish home at the southwestern most tip of the Kintyre Peninsula in southwest Scotland. The bag pipe laced tune will become McCartney's all time best selling single in the UK, either with or without The Beatles. Despite being the first song to sell over two million copies in Great Britain, it was mostly ignored in North America. Later in Macca's career, the number became a concert highlight when he started using local pipe bands on stage to help him perform the song.

1971: Slade, one of the most successful British bands of the 1970s, score the first of their six UK number one records with "Coz I Luv You". The mis-spelt title became a trademark for the band, which caused a great deal of concern by school teachers in Great Britain.

1966: Johnny Rivers went to #1 on the Billboard singles chart with "Poor Side Of Town". In the UK however, the record failed to become a hit.

1982: Marvin Gaye's first release since leaving Motown Records earlier in the year, "Sexual Healing", becomes his 13th and final #1 on the Billboard R&B chart. The song will reach #3 on the Pop chart and #4 in the UK early next year.

1968: Jefferson Airplane stir up some controversy on The Smothers Brothers Show when Grace Slick, appearing in black face, gives the black power fist salute at the end of "Crown Of Creation".
