1965: After several minor hits, Sonny And Cher topped both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Cashbox Best Sellers chart with "I Got You Babe". The record would also lead the UK chart two weeks later and become a Top Ten hit in nine other countries.

1969: The Guess Who record "American Woman", which will become a Top Ten hit in the US, Canada, Switzerland and the Netherlands. The same week they receive their first American Gold record for "These Eyes".

1984: Lionel Richie closed the Olympic Games in Los Angeles with his number one smash, "All Night Long". 2.6 billion people watched on their TV sets.

1962: After eight previous songs landed in the Billboard Top 40, Neil Sedaka scored his first Billboard number one hit with "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do". It also topped the Cashbox Best Sellers chart and reached #7 on the UK chart.

1976: Elton John played the first of seven sold out shows at Madison Square Garden in New York. The concerts generated 1.25 million dollars, breaking the record for ticket revenue set by The Rolling Stones in 1975. Elton was promoting his current single, "Don't Go Breaking My Heart", with Kiki Dee, as well as the live album, "Here and There".
