1977: Fleetwood Mac score their only Billboard number one hit with "Dreams", which made #24 in the UK. Over the next dozen years, they would reach the US Top 40 thirteen more times.

1964: Jay And The Americans record the Tex-Mex hit, "Come A Little Bit Closer", which would climb to number 3 in the US by the following November.

1965: Herman's Hermits were awarded their first Gold record for "Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter". The song was originally an album cut that got so much air play in the US, MGM Records released it as a single.

1967: Five teenagers from Mansfield, Ohio, called The Music Explosion found themselves with a monster hit on their hands when "Little Bit O' Soul" peaked at #2 on the Hot 100. The group would be awarded a Gold Record for their efforts, but although they would release more material, none of their follow-ups reached any higher than #63. Drummer Bob Avery would later go on to the band Crazy Elephant, who reached #12 on both sides of the Atlantic with "Gimme Gimme Good Lovin'".

1980: Billy Joel started a six-week run at #1 on the Billboard Hot 200 with his second chart topping LP, "Glass Houses". The album would go on to sell over 7 million copies on the strength of the singles, "You May Be Right" (#7), "It's Still Rock and Roll To Me" (#1) and "Don't Ask Me Why" (#19).
