1960: Ben E. King was at Atlantic Records, laying down his first solo efforts since leaving The Drifters. During the session, King recorded "Spanish Harlem" which would reach #10 in the US and "Stand By Me" which would go to #4 Stateside and #1 in the UK.

1984: Wham! topped the UK chart with "Freedom", a song that will reach #3 in America. It was the second British #1 of the year for the English duo, following the success of "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" last Spring.

1975: Art Garfunkel had his first UK solo #1 single with a song written in 1934, "I Only Have Eyes For You". It reached #18 in the US.

1970: Pink Floyd were at the top of the UK album chart with "Atom Heart Mother", the group's first #1 LP. In the US it peaked at #55 and went Gold in March 1994.

1993: Meat Loaf topped the UK singles chart with "I'd Do Anything For Love", which would also rise to number one in the US two weeks later.
