1962: The Tijuana Brass release their first single "The Lonely Bull" on A&M Records, the label formed by their leader Herb Alpert and his partner Jerry Moss. The tune will reach #6 in the US and begin a string of 19 Pop chart hits for Alpert.

1960: 16 year old Bryan Hyland's novelty tune, "Itsy Bitsy, Teenie Weenie, Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" topped the Billboard Hot 100 and the Cash Box Best Sellers list. Songwriter Paul Vance said he got the inspiration for the song when he saw his two year old daughter at the beach in a tiny little swimsuit. The record reached #8 in the UK.

1971: James Taylor had the best selling single in America, according to the Cashbox chart, with the Carole King written "You've Got A Friend." The song reached #4 in the UK and was actually recorded simultaneously with King's version with shared musicians.

1966: Sam The Sham And The Pharaohs top the Cashbox Best Sellers list with "Lil' Red Riding Hood", a #2 hit on the Billboard chart. A week later, the RIAA will certify it as a Gold Record, with sales exceeding one million copies

1978: The Rolling Stones saw their only Disco-style effort, "Miss You", become their eighth number one single in the US. It reached #3 in the UK. It has been reported that the lyrics were inspired by Mick Jagger's deteriorating relationship with his wife, Bianca.
