1964: The Animals' self-titled album enters the Billboard LP chart. It contains their #1 hit, "House Of The Rising Sun". The British album "The Animals" was released a month later with substantially differing contents.

1977: Stephen Bishop's biggest hit, "On And On", peaks at #11 on the Hot 100 during its twenty-eight week stay on the chart. The song also reached #6 in Canada, but was not a hit in the UK.

1982: Sony Corporation introduces the first commercially available compact disc player in Tokyo, Japan. The price of the unit is about $650 US. Albums that have been converted to CD are slow to reach the North American market and the first to go on sale is Billy Joel's "52nd Street".

1972: David Cassidy reached the top of the UK singles chart with a cover version of The Rascals' 1967 hit, "How Can I Be Sure". It would be the first of two UK #1's for Cassidy, but in America it stalled at #25.

1973: Grand Funk scored their first number one record when "We're An American Band" hit the top of Billboard's Hot 100. The song was sung by drummer Don Brewer rather than Mark Farner, who usually took lead vocals.
