1977: A 30 year old rocker named Marvin Lee Aday, who uses the stage name Meat Loaf, releases his landmark album "Bat Out Of Hell". Since that time, the LP has sold over 43 million copies worldwide.

1978: Glam rocker Nick Gilder had the number 1 song in the US with "Hot Child in the City". It would prove to be his only hit record in America, although he had previously enjoyed a #1 smash in Canada with "Roxy Roller" while a member of the band Sweeney Todd.

1973: Although they enjoyed a long string of hit records, Gladys Knight And The Pips had their only US number one song when "Midnight Train to Georgia" hit the top. The record won the 1974 Grammy Award for Best R&B Vocal Performance By A Duo, Group Or Chorus and has become Knight's signature song.

1974: English supergroup Bad Company tops the Cashbox Best Sellers chart with "Can't Get Enough". It will prove to be their biggest North American hit, although they will place eight more songs in the US Top 40.

1974: English Folk singer Nick Drake died from an overdose of a prescribed antidepressant at the age of 26. Between 1969 and 1972 he had recorded three modestly selling albums which would find a new audience by the early 1980s and would be frequently cited by other artists as being a major influence.
