1963: The Beach Boys' "Be True To Your School" enters the Billboard Top 40 on its way to #6. The song was written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love as a tribute to their own Hawthorne High School, but features the melody of the University Of Wisconsin's fight song, "On Wisconsin".

1957: Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel appear as Tom And Jerry on ABC-TV's American Bandstand where they perform "Hey Schoolgirl". Both were just 16 years old.

1964: Marvin Gaye's "How Sweet It Is" enters the Hot 100, where it will peak at #6 during a 14 week stay. The song would become a hit all over again when James Taylor took it to #5 in 1975.

1965: "I Hear A Symphony" becomes The Supremes' sixth US number one single. The trio had their streak of five chart toppers in a row interrupted by "Nothing But Heartaches", which stalled at number 11.

1976: Van Morrison's 1970 album, "Moondance" is awarded a Gold record. The LP, which made it to #29 on the Hot 200, contained two hits: the title track and "Into the Mystic", and would be inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999
