1955: Harry Belafonte records a traditional Jamaican Folk tune called "The Banana Boat Song" ("Day-O"). It reached #5 in the US in early 1957 and later became Belafonte's signature song.
1967: Jose Feliciano records his version of "Light My Fire", which will reach #3 in the US in 1968.
1969: The Temptations continued their long string of hit singles when the second of their four Billboard number one hits, "I Can't Get Next To You", tops the Hot 100. It made #13 in the UK.
1960: Ben E. King led The Drifters to the top of the US Pop chart with "Save The Last Dance For Me". The record will reach #2 in the UK in December.
